shower
Josh and I went over to Inna's parent's place tonight to have dessert and wine with the family before Inna and Mike leave tomorrow. It started raining as we got on our bikes to leave and we were rushing to get home quickly. It ended up raining for like 3 minutes and then ceasing so we barely got wet. I suddenly remembered a day my senior year of college when it was raining really hard and I had to leave for class. I lived about a mile from campus and rode my bike every day. I put on the shell of my winter coat with the hood up, snapped my helmet on over the hood, and rode my bike with my left hand while I held a golf umbrella over my head with my right. For a mile, on roads, in the windy rain. It got me thinking about rain and how our immediate reaction is to get out of it as quickly as possible, staying as dry as possible. Why is this? It must have been at least 80 degrees outside tonight and a nice shower would have been really cooling. But our electronics would have gotten wet and what a travesty that would have been. I don't mean to sound like a snob and say that I don't care about my cell phone and ipod because, believe me, I do. And I also care about being dry when being wet is inconvenient. I'm just saying that rain isn't so bad and maybe I shouldn't be afraid to ride in it once in a while. That is all.
